In the later 19th and early 20th centuries, successive waves of immigrants came to the United States from Europe. In “An American Journey,” the ensemble imagines a voyage to Ellis Island (and then to Boston area) when Irish, Italians and Eastern European Jews share their stories, songs, and dances. The interactive program inspires ongoing conversations among families about how their ancestors came to America.

Annamaria San Antonio, a new member of Revels Rep this season, was excited to learn about the upcoming performance in Lawrence. Her family came from the Campagna region of Italy to the U.S. in 1907 (the time of “An American Journey”). Her family members worked in the Lawrence mills and several were involved in the Bread and Roses strike in 1912.

The program includes audience participation and is appropriate for adults and children ages 5 and up.

Join us for SOUP and BREAD at 1:00pm and a pre-performance talk at 1:30pm!!
