A New Deal For Lawrence: JOBS:
Throughout history, and particularly during economic crises,
our political leaders have promised to put people to work.
What does having a job mean to you? What about not having a job?
The Works Progress Administration (WPA) was established in May 1935,
at the height of the Great Depression.
In the months that followed,
people in Lawrence and around the nation got back to work.
This exhibit invites you to explore the legacy of the WPA and other New Deal programs in Lawrence,
and their significance 75 years later as the country faces another jobs crisis.
